Let’s get the ball rolling. It has happened to us today, Dreamweaver CS4 has started to refuse to connect to remote server, even deleted some files whilst it was at it. Googling and searching the internet in other ways didn’t bring any desired solution and all the posts I found seemed to have been slightly older and out of date.
We did manage to solve it (-ish), but before I tell you how, I’d like to know if any of you still experience it and if so how do (did) you deal with it and.. if you’ve managed to resolve it?
Our problem had to do with the… believe it or not: the router. We reset it, and it started working. So not so much a DW issue as a network one.
Any other solutions? Let’s start a new forum, one that solves it, comes up high on search engines because it is to the point and helps!
I’d like to hear from those who can’t reset their network/router and maybe find out what actually causes it and if there are any other solutions.
Thanks!
Got the same problem and its driving me mad! Skips files completely inconsistently and has been deleting them.
But….before I start messing around with my router, did you try ftp-ing via different software? I’ve tried putting via Core ftp and its fine so it does seem to be a Dreamweaver problem…. Or is it something to do with the way DW and the router are interracting?
Please let me know!
Hi,
yes, I have tried uploading using different software, CuteFTP and CoreFTP to be precise and that worked no problem. I see where you’re coming from and yes, I should probably rephrase: it is a DW issue (as in it ONLY occurs in DreamWeaver) that I have resolved NOT by reinstalling the software but by resetting the router. Simply performed software reset and then a manual one (unplugging the power, not the reset button on the router).
Hope that helps!
Yes it does – believe it or not, I tried turning the router off before I even tried re-setting it, and DW ftp is now working fine across several sites and servers. Seems a bit too good to be true….I’ve got 2 different releases of DW on 2 pcs and was having the same problem with both so obviously no point in re-installing. The only common denominator seemed to be the router…. However, I don’t think I would’ve thought of it so many thanks. Adobe seem not to be acknowledging it as an issue which is a bit bad really,
Wicked! I’m really pleased for you! It is weird, isn’t it?! Just to narrow it down: what router do you use? My problem occured on a D-LINK (will specify the model as soon as I check), currently running on Belkin N-Vision no probs.. BTW – DW on Windows or Mac? Just looking for a denominator
I’m both Win and Mac, DW CS4..
Hi, the router is a Huawei Echolife HG520b – never had a wireless router before so am pretty new to the technology. Also using DW CS4, and was wondering if it could have been something to do with the OS, as am using XP (not a Vista fan!) but have XP on one machine and XP Pro on the other so think its unlikely to be that. As I’m sure you’re aware there are a lot of people asking about this via various forums – the main reaction seems to be to look at the permissions, which is obviously completely unhelpful…Let me know if you manage to spot a denominator…
I have the same problem. I am using Windows Vista Business, CS4 and a D-Link 655. Tried restarting the router by cutting power, but that didn’t work. I still haven’t resolved the problem.
wow thank you for the post I was going mad. I reset my netgear wireless g router and it solved the issue running mac osx 10.4 with cs4. anyone know why this is happening? would like to think there is real solution instead of opening my stuctured cabling panel every few days to upload….
Stephen, glad it helped.I haven’t experienced it for some time, but resetting my Belkin N-Vision everytime it occurred was a get-out-of-jail ticket for me. We need a HW/networking expert here to explain why, still striving to comprehend why it is a solution
All the best,
Martin
So glad you posted this problem. Thought I was losing my mind! Tried CS3 and CS4 and the problem only got worse. Had my server folks delete the whole site and resent the files via DW but still got the error message. Then used Total Commander to ftp the files and that worked! Thanks! Louann
Had a very similar problem. Resolved it by setting FTP to Passive mode. Hope the helps someone!
I have tried all these ideas and it hasn’t worked. The skipping issue occurs on different machines. Sometimes a file will get skipped while a different one won’t. I’ve tried other ftp programs, but to no avail. Please help.

Then maybe it’s a provider issue. In my experience it has less and less to do with Dreamweaver and more either with the hardware one is using to access the internet (router, modem – whether yours or provided by ISP) or the internet connection itself (again: ISP).
Having said that I have a (unconfirmed) suspicion that Dreamweaver might be flooding the hardware with requests the hardware is simply refusing/unable to process. But that’s only a speculation and a rather wild one – for I’m not a techie, just a programmer.
Just to make sure: restart (unplug the cord) of your modem/wifi-router/router for a few minutes, then try again.
I seem to have stopped experiencing the issue after I have restarted, plus I have recently changed both hardware and ISPs due to moving.
Lastly: all this has ever occurred on Windows hosting, maybe even restarting your server might help. I have never had such issues on a Linux-based server.
Hope it helps, do let me know!
Martin =)
I did reset my router, but honestly I cannot imagine what difference that should ever make. I am surprised that it has helped others. I am now in conversation with my server hosting company and they think that it may be on their side. It appears to be something about permissions and the age of the physical hosting server. I will see.
Fingers crossed, Bill. I do hope yo get to the bottom of it. Out of curiosity: is it a Windows hosting?
Wishing you good luck,
Martin
The prev. server was a windows box with windows 2000. I’m being switched to a newer one, though I don’t know what kind it is.
Best of luck, Bill, I hope that solves it for you. So as of now adding to the list of possible issues/solutions:
* consider talking to/changing your host
Glad to hear from you,
Martin
A solution found! It turned out to be the old server. Now that I am on a new server, the issues no longer occur.
